Movie: Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995)
A coming-of-age story that doesn't hold back, Welcome to the Dollhouse may disturb some for a story told from a child's perspective that is heavy on sexuality, violence (rape is threatened) and enough profanity to make Quinten Tarantino blush. But none of it is gratuitous. This is actually an endearing story of a girl who feels out-of-place in her own family, not to mention among her peers. The relationships she has are appropriately awkward and there are many hilarious moments. You'll be rooting for Weinerdog and feeling her pain as she navigates the most painful days of adolescence. Deftly written and directed by Todd Solondz with the debut performances of Heather Matarazzo, Brendan Sexton and Eric Mabius. Available on Amazon Prime Video and DVD.
